Michael Riley Design reflects a passion for strong design clarity and exciting and functional synthetic greens. Drawn to the craft early on by the role of form and function, Mike Riley leverages his experience working with Nicklaus Design and Robert Cupp. Understanding the value of 35 years of hands-on design experience, Southwest Greens formalized a relationship to integrate natural course attributes with modern synthetic turf playability.

Graduating with a degree in Horticulture from Clemson University and brief time on the pro golf circuit, Mike was offered a pivotal role to work for the Jack Nicklaus team. As both a site coordinator and a design associate, he was happy to be participate on Nicklaus golf courses in various regions around the globe including Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii and Japan. He literally learned exceptional golf course design and construction from the ground up with the master himself. One of the courses he worked on, the Kiele course at Kauai Lagoons, was recognized as Best New Resort Course by Golf Digest magazine in 1989.
